Apparently Sufis Aren’t Muslims

Ia m taking a Christian/Jewish/Muslim class at the University of Texas (the only US university with an Islamic Studies major).

We divided the class up by our religion, and the professor put ALL the Christians (Mormon, Protestant, Catholic) together, but she put Sufis under the MYSTIC denomination instead of the MUSLIM denomination.

Now I have no problem with Wahabis, Salafis, etc as long as they are fair in spreading their message. Buts its sad when they have so much power that they can manipulate how the West learns about Islam. I have noticed lots of Muslim organizations doing this, particularly the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). If you look at a lot of their strategies and stats about Muslims, they tend to exclude both Sufis and Shias.

Let me just get this straight. Most Sufis are not those people who wear those white garments and dance in circles. Those are extreme Sufis. Most Sufi’s just call themselves Muslim, but just put more emphasis on intentions and heart than other denominations. Sufi’s follow the same Quran and Sunnah as Sunnis, making them just as Sunni as a Wahabi.

Here are some other places where you will notice how Sufis are put under and completely different denomination from Sunnis when they actually are Sunni.

  • Facebook: Choose your religion as Islam, and 3 choices come up: Sunni, Shi’ite, Sufi.
  • Wikipedia: Put 3 Denominations: Sunni, Shia, and Sufi schools of thought (last time I checked Sufi Hanafi’s existed. But apparently that can’t be possible because they are different sects).
  • About Islam Information Book: A Book (distributed by a Saudi run publication) that is givent to millions of people puts Sufis under a different Sect.
  • Public School System: Just as stated above, public school systems put Sufis in a separate sect.

The political game that so many Muslim and Non Muslim organizations play is annoying. They say “Muslims need to unite” but under the table they are trying to erase Muslim diversity off the map.

Review: The Message (The Story of Islam)

The Message

4 CHUCK5 MECCA

Chuck’s Thought: 4
Muslim Friendliness: 5

Pros: Amazing accurate historical fiction about the life of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the story of Islam. Anthony Quinn does some impressive acting being Hamza. Shows Islam in Hollywood in a way that really isn’t seen much. Its perfect for anyone who really doesn’t know much about the history of Islam.

Cons: It’s old (1976) and long (about 3 hours). This is bad if you are trying to teach Islam to a bunch of young ADD people in the west.

Muslim Friendliness: Its a story about Islam that doesn’t show any images of the main people in Islam, like Muhammad is never shown. What else do you need?

Full Review: The Message, directed by Moustapha Akkad, is the story of Muhammad (pbuh) and it is done in a Hollywood form.  I really enjoyed watching it when and miraculously my ADD didn’t really kick in at any time in the movie. There is a decent amount of cinematic drama and action and it shows the conflict to make Islam good very well.  What it did AMAZINGLY was to depict Muhammad (pbuh) without actually showing him. What it did was have the camera be his eyes and other people talking to him. Every time the camera was Muhammad (pbuh) there was some really interesting music. Overall, there is nothing much to say about this movie but: watch it. Hopefully someone will remake this movie though to make it more 21st Century appropriate.

How The Super Bowl Converted Me To Islam

Super Bowl XXXIXI’ve posted this on countless websites, but i might as well do it again because it’s so weird yet hilarious:
I was Deist (confirmed God but didn’t know what religion) for a while. So I started investigating into different religions, particularly Christianity and Islam.

The Christian message was appealing, but I really need faith AND logic if I am going to convert. The problem with Christianity for me is that it didn’t make sense for God to be a strict monotheist and then go trinitarian. Not to mention the books were hard to trust.

So I read the Quran, finding the beautiful poetry, amazing logic, and that science stuff many Muslims push into your brain as if it is the only reason to convert. But I also needed a faith booster.

So here is how I got mine.

National Football League, Super Bowl.

Eagles v Patriots.

During this time period I was studying Islam and stumbled upon a hadith about dreams and foreseeing the future. Well, the night before the Super Bowl, I had a dream. I was watching the super bowl, and I saw the scoreboard: 24 to 21, the Patriot are about to win and the Eagles go on a final drive.

Well, guess what happens the next day. I tell my friends my prediction of the final score based on this dream. Score
ends up being 24-21 and that same drive happens with McNabb looking the same way i saw him in my dream.

Dude, I saw the future.

The hadith I read about dreams said that dreams come from either Satan or Allah. If they came from Allah, some can predict the future or show the truth.

Well, when i saw the future, i was like WOW, Allah must be real and he must be telling me something.

Thats what hooked me to Islam.

Weirdest convert story in the world.

Anti Islamofascist Awareness Day

From: http://facebook.com/event.php?eid=7627125398

Oppose Horowitz’s Islamophobic campaign- Wear Green All This Week

Conservative David Horowitz has declared Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week October 22-26.

“I will hold demonstrations and protests, teach-ins and sit-ins on more than 100 college campuses. Our theme will be the Oppression of Women in Islam and the threat posed by the Islamic crusade against the West,” said Horowitz

He hopes this will be the biggest conservative campus protest ever, and will show students that Islamo-fascism constitutes “the greatest danger Americans have ever confronted.”

More Info

Horowitz in this campaign seeks to portray Islam as an inherently oppressive and violent religion. He hopes to polarize the nation and spread bigoted information under the auspices of higher learning, rather than promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding.

HELP BRING THIS SUBVERSIVE, EXTREMIST AND PREJUDICED CAMPAIGN TO LIGHT- WEAR GREEN ON OCTOBER 24th TO SHOW THAT YOU DO NOT SUPPORT HOROWITZ’S “ISLAMO-FASCISM AWARENESS” WEEK!

Sincere Charities

I myself have run multiple charities in my life, from leading the Dallas chapter of the UN sponsored Fight Hunger to being the president of the largest academic organization in my High School, Key Club, to MoCity and its charity program. I myself have been the bad guy before in a charity that wanted fame more than helping people. I know this is hard to admit, but the truth is many of us want fame more than actually helping people. For me sincere means:

  1. Leaders of the organization are actually doing it to help the cause and not to achieve personal fame.
  2. Maintenance costs are less than 10% of money made.
  3. There are clear public records and proof of where money is going.

If a charity doesn’t pass these 3 requirements, I never want to donate to it.
